Video: Art Meets Fish Herding

The Art of Maintenance from Pat Shannahan on Vimeo.

Fish herding meets performance art as interpretive art troupe Vessel follows a work crew herding large fish downstream during the maintenance of a Salt River Project canal in Scottsdale, Arizona. This was one of the oddest things I have ever shot video of. Workers routinely have to drain the canals and clean out any unwanted junk that gets thrown into them. Before they can fully drain the canal they must remove the large fish that eat unwanted vegetation. The fish are transported upstream to a section of the canal that is full. The performance artists hoped that by dressing in all white they might get people passing by to stop and celebrate the routine maintenance.
