Fields of White from Pat Shannahan on Vimeo.
I’ve always been stuck at how beautiful a cotton field can be when it’s ready to be harvested. Howard Wuertz’s family has farmed cotton in Pinal County, Ariz., since the 30s. He’s considered a pioneer in using sub-surface drip irrigation to grow cotton in Arizona. By using sub-surface drip irrigation rather than flood his fields, he’s cut his water usage by half and still managed to increase his yield. Wuertz, who is in his mid 80s, is always working on something new. He was proud to say that he has 5 patents, the last of which was issued to him in 2009.
